How you make money in GTA 6

The guide everyone will be hunting for on Day 1. This is where the methods go, with how much they pay per hour, what you need for each one, and what's worth spending your first money on.

In short

  1. Nobody knows yet what GTA 6's methods are — the game isn't out.
  2. GTA 6 Online hasn't been shown. Anything going around today as a “money method” is guesswork.
  3. What we do know is how money works historically in GTA Online — and that's what gets you ready.
  4. On Day 1 this page fills with numbers we measured, not numbers we copied.
Why aren't there numbers here? Because they don't exist. We'd rather tell you “we don't know yet” than serve you fiction with a straight face. On 19 November we go into the game, we measure, and we write.

Your money, BEFORE Day 1 — decisions that matter NOW

The game isn't out — but the money decisions have already started. What follows is from official sources:

  • Standard (€79.99) or Ultimate (€99.99)? The extra €20 buys: 6+ vehicles, two exclusive side missions, clothes and store perks — which unlock gradually, chapter by chapter. If all you care about is the story, it's “skins + 2 missions”; if you're a collector, they're worth it. Decide with your eyes open.
  • The freebie you must NOT miss: every purchase before 20/11 gets the Vintage Vice City Pack — meaning you start Day 1 with your own car (Stanier ’55) and a garage near Ocean Beach. Property before you've even played.
  • Digital pre-order = +1 month of GTA+ free (redeem by 31/3/2027).
  • The traps already costing people money: “cheap PS5 keys” from other regions (PS5 codes are region-locked — you'll be left with a useless code), and “beta invites” that ask for your details or a payment — there is no beta.
  • The €80 in context: the head of Take-Two defended it on the 7/8 call (“an AAA game really costs less than it did 20 years ago”) — and Greek retailers range from €76.50 to €79.99 (checked 1/9), with seven of the eight practically at the same price; see the table in Launch Prep.

1. Story mode vs Online — two different money games

In GTA, money works completely differently in the story and online. In GTA 6, though, the story is no longer its own cash register: Rob Nelson said outright that missions on their own don't pay enough for you to progress — the money comes from the open world, and that money unlocks the next chapters (c-147, c-063). Online, money is the core: it unlocks cars, houses, businesses, and essentially the entire game.

That's why people search for “how do I make money”: not out of greed, but because without money you have no access to the content — and now, in the story, not even to its continuation.

2. The structure this guide will have on Day 1

The table is already set up. Tap a header to sort — that way you'll find the best one for you right away:

MethodType€/hour TimeSolo?What you need
— lands 19 Nov —Missions——Yes—
— lands 19 Nov —Heist————
— lands 19 Nov —Business————
— lands 19 Nov —Passive————
— lands 19 Nov —Free roam——Yes—

Every row will have: how much you make per hour, how long it takes, whether you can do it solo, what you need to have bought first, and the upfront cost.

3. What you can learn right now (and it will still hold)

These aren't predictions about GTA 6 — this is how GTA Online has worked for years. It's the right way to prepare:

01

Active vs passive

Active jobs pay a lot while you're playing. Passive ones pile up on their own in the background. The smart players run both at once.

02

Starting capital

The most profitable jobs usually require buying in first. Your first big purchase is an investment, not a toy.

03

The weekly bonuses

Historically, every week some activities pay double or triple. Playing whatever's on bonus changes your earnings dramatically.

04

Time, not luck

There's no “get rich” button. There's profit per hour. Anything promising millions in 5 minutes is usually a scam or will be shut down with the first update.

4. Where NOT to spend your first money

The most common beginner mistake, in every GTA:

  • Clothes and looks. They don't make you money. Later.
  • The first expensive car you see. It'll still be there in two weeks — and then you'll buy it painlessly.
  • Anything that doesn't unlock more content. First you buy the tools that make money, then the toys.

See the full breakdown in beginner mistakes.

5. The plan for Day 1

  1. First the story for a while — you learn the world and the basics.
  2. Then online, aiming for one method that works solo too.
  3. You save up for the first investment that unlocks steady income.
  4. From there on, you play whatever has a bonus that week.

Frequently asked questions

Will there be money glitches?

They always show up, they always get shut down. They also violate the terms of service and can cost you your account. We don't recommend them and we don't publish them.

Do I need a crew to make money?

Historically no — there are always methods for a single player. The table will have a “Solo?” column so you can filter.

When exactly does this guide fill up?

From the first hours of 19 November 2026, and updated continuously through the first week.

Does this apply to story mode too?

Some do — but the pace of the story is the pace of the money: without cash from the open world the campaign doesn't move (c-147). A separate section is coming.

What changed with the Extended Look

On 27/8 this file got real receipts. These are the freshest — each with its permanent address on the Wall.

The reserved fields

What we do NOT know yet — with a deadline. A gap isn't an excuse: it's a promise with a date.

How much do the fences pay — per vehicle, condition and area?

What we expect: We measure live on day one and fill in the table. What it changes: If prices differ by area, the order of the first jobs changes.

RESERVED FIELD — FILLED IN ON 19.11.2026 · in — days

What pays how much per hour — and how much does each chapter of the story ask for to unlock?

What we expect: Timed measurements — not copied numbers. What it changes: It's no longer just ranking methods: since the open world unlocks the story (c-147) and the campaign asks for a specific chapter at points along the way (c-063), the pace of the money is the pace of the story. The number is missing from both sides.

Is there even an Online economy at launch?

What we expect: Official announcement for GTA 6 Online — not yet. 14/10: first journalistic indication (Bloomberg Businessweek, #c-252, Solid) says “2027, not alongside the launch” — not yet an official statement from Rockstar/Take-Two. What it changes: Half the plan: the game launches single-player.

The WAINK app scans parked vehicles: lock, alarm, GPS tracker and value estimate — before you touch it.#058 →Theft has tiers: old cars need a slim jim, luxury ones a key cloner — and some unlock only with story equipment.#059 →You sell stolen goods to fences; damage drops the price — and they also hand out information, e.g. about impound lots.#060 →You keep a stolen car by paying for a forged “clean” title — otherwise you liquidate it at the chop shop.#061 →Safe: you blow it fast and part of the loot burns — or you work out the combination slowly, with the police on the way.#062 →Money unlocks the story: at points in the campaign a specific amount of capital is required to move forward.#063 →Trunk Challenge: NPC-livestreamer broadcasts live from the trunk of a stolen car in the middle of a chase.#081 →No microtransactions in single-player — nowhere in the campaign do you put in real money.#089 →The Criminal Profile measures your style — professional or chaotic — with no good/evil scale; it affects how the world treats you.#055 →Two editions: Standard €79.99 and Ultimate €99.99.#005 →Anyone who buys before 20 November gets the “Vintage Vice City Pack” free.#006 →You have a bank account on top of your cash — and on “Wasted” or “Busted” you lose all the cash you're carrying on you.#133 →Missions on their own do NOT give enough money for the story to move forward — the money is made in the open world, and that's what unlocks the campaign.#147 →Later in the game a vehicle fence shows up who removes the GPS trackers — the marked car gets clean and becomes sellable.#154 →Pay & Spray repairs and repaints so you can shake the Heat — color only, though; and once you sell there, it won't take a second car right away.#157 →Store robbery with no traces: you go in through the back door with a snap gun, smash the cameras, disable the alarm — and leave without anyone finding out what happened.#158 →The map shows the gang hideouts AND how much cash or drugs they're holding — you sneak in and take it; the drugs go to the fence.#159 →
