Every segment of the strip is ONE sourced claim — tap it. The dashed gaps count in the denominator: whatever we don't know, we owe you in public. Never “% ready” — only “% confirmed”.

The order, in short

  1. 0–10′: display, sound and controller settings. Don't skip them.
  2. 10–40′: let the story carry you. Don't rush, don't go looking for anything.
  3. 40–90′: start experimenting — driving, map, mechanics.
  4. 90–120′: now look at what else is there: activities, exploration, the open world.

Before you even hit Play — what's true right now

  • 12 November: preload opens on the digital stores. Download it THEN — on launch day the networks will buckle.
  • Don't chase 60fps on Day 1: the game runs at 30fps on PS5 and Xbox Series X — Rockstar North's own head of development said so (#163), and the technical analysis of the Extended Look lands on the same number (#091). No separate performance mode has been promised for launch; Sony's “PS5 Pro Enhanced” (#116) says nothing about frames. Set your expectations, not just your settings.
  • You already know who you'll be playing: Jason lives in the Keys working for smugglers, Lucia is walking out of Leonida Penitentiary — straight from the official bios. Read them in the World and the first few minutes will land a lot better.
  • How much do you want to know before you play? On 27/8 “An Extended Look” showed 26 minutes of real gameplay. If you're avoiding spoilers, don't open it — if not, it's scene by scene here. That call gets made now, not on 19/11.

0–10′ · Set up before you play

The five minutes nobody spends and everybody regrets:

  • Brightness/HDR — if the night looks like “black mud”, it's not the game's fault.
  • Controller sensitivity — if the camera feels heavy, nudge it up.
  • Subtitles — in GTA you lose lines in the noise. Turn them on.
  • Aiming — check the options it gives you and choose deliberately.

10–40′ · Let the game talk to you

The opening of every GTA is staged to introduce you to the world. Don't go looking for “what am I supposed to do”. Follow, observe, get used to the controls.

40–90′ · Experiment

  • Drive with no destination for a while — that's how you learn the map.
  • See what every button does. There are always mechanics in GTA that nobody explains to you.
  • Open the map and see how big it is. It helps you understand what's waiting for you.
The specifics go here. Setting names, exact menus, what unlocks when, and where you find the first useful things — as soon as we play. And always without story spoilers.

90–120′ · Open up the world

  • See what activities exist outside the story.
  • Decide whether you want to keep going with the story or go online. Suggestion: a bit of story first — you learn the game for free.
  • When you go online, start with the money guide.

Confirmed 11

The campaign runs ~80 hours — that's how long Rob Nelson took on a full playthrough with part of the optional content.#087 →The story is structured in chapters, with decisions small and large — some consequences come immediately, others pile up later.#088 →Switching Jason/Lucia freely, any moment in the open world — at story points it may lock.#065 →The inactive character lives their own day and sends you messages — if you ignore them, the bond wears down.#067 →Food and exercise change the protagonists' bodies — the San Andreas philosophy is back.#076 →Stamina builds permanently through exercise — and smoothies/shakes give temporary energy.#077 →Interiors with no loading screens: the finale flows from the street into the elevator and onto the Megamundo floor without a cut.#092 →The phone is an object inside the world — the character holds it in their hand; that's where the apps live: WAINK, Ryde Me, Snapmatic.#078 →RydeMe is the game's taxi app: you call a ride with a driver — and you can skip it, like on public transport.#079 →Early access will NOT exist — in any form. Take-Two ruled it out explicitly (8/8): everyone starts at the same moment, on 19 November.#105 →Preload starts on 12 November for digital pre-orders — one week before release, officially confirmed by Rockstar.#019 →
